Music: Kingdom Of Rust - Doves

The new Doves album is out next week and here's the first single - a sad man drives to Blackpool to scatter some ashes is the main gist I think.

Film: Where The Wild Things Are

Summer hasn't arrived yet, but once it's over, one way of escaping the cold will be to go to the cinema and watch Where The Wild Things Are. Based on a well-known children's book that's 10 lines long, it's directed by Spike Jonze, and partly written by Dave Eggers. Click here for some Wikipedia info, here to read the latest news on the movie from Empire, and here to buy a very good book by the aforementioned Dave Eggers.

Links: Space balloon

Not a bad effort for science class... four Spanish students managed to take some impressive space shots by attaching a Nikon camera to a weather balloon. You can read more about it here and see the photos here.

Links: Google Street View

The subject of privacy-related law suits in the USA (see here), Google's 360-degree photographic Street View is now included as part of Google Maps. 25 British cities are covered, including Manchester - you can walk right up to 5th Ave, but it's closed. To see the images, drag the little orange man down into the map.

Music: Mistaken For Strangers - The National

Some dark mumbly indie rock music from The National - this single is from the 2007 album Boxer.

"You are about the worst tourist in the whole world."

As luck would have it, this appeared on Sky Movies in the same week that Chewi recommended it. And it's quite enjoyable as well, in a darkly comic way - maybe because it's based on The Dumb Waiter by the darkly comic Harold Pinter. IMDB

Archive of droodles

A droodle is a combination of a doodle and a riddle - so, for example, the above droodle shows a spider enjoying his favourite movie. For more pictures along similar lines visit the Droodle Archive.

Voice of Harold on Voice of Harold

Here's the song after which this blog was named - as R.E.M. experts will know, it's Michael Stipe singing the sleeve notes from a gospel choir album, over the top of the backing track to 7 Chinese Bros.
