Vista is here

The new version of Windows has been released and to celebrate the occasion I travelled down to London last week for the official launch. The world's richest man, Mr Bill Gates, was there talking about how great Vista is, and here he is in action. If you want to know how all that money gets spent, click here to read about his $125million house.

Happy Birthday James Joyce

Today marks what would have been the 125th birthday of one of my favourite writers, James Joyce. His Dubliners short story collection includes The Dead, which ends with a snowy graveyard (see above), and Two Gallants, after which Chewi's favourite band are named. If you want to read the 12 stories, about everything from skipping school and late-night card games to falling in love and dying alone, they are all available online for free here.

Happy New Year

2007 is upon us, bringing with it a mixture of the old and new.

Same old same old: late night walks up Brabyn's brow.

Same old same old: unable to win (or lose) the Spring Gardens quiz.

New new new: Nick's back.

New new new: new live local music.

Jonny: "I can still hear the music sitting down."

Ben's birthday

Ben's birthday provided another good excuse to head for the bright lights of Manchester...

Liamo tries to remember which song he put on the jukebox.

Chris: "I've never seen so many photos without Jimbo in them."

B and Michelle check out the cocktails menu in Blu Bar.

Ben: "We're not teenagers any more James."

Liamo: "How long to Piccadilly station from here?"

A small nightcap in the reliable Royal Scot.

Jack's back

Sunday night TV is back on the agenda with the arrival of the sixth series of 24, featuring ex-Flatliner Kiefer Sutherland as Jack Bauer. If you've never seen it before, tune in and watch Jack torture terrorists, dodge bullets, rebel against his dimwitted superiors and save the world from nuclear meltdown in the space of one day. The official (US) site is here.

At long last the second series of Twin Peaks is on the verge of being released on DVD (though there's no final date set yet)... and this is what it looks like...
